Air Conditioning Systems

Air conditioning systems

Air conditioning systems are installed in homes and buildings to provide comfort to the occupants. An ac unit, whether part of a central air conditioning system or a portable air conditioning machine, works by maintaining a constant temperature indoors, which makes it necessary in places where extremes in temperatures are the norm or when natural ventilation is not possible. An air conditioning unit is also a common fixture in cars and other enclosed automobiles.

How Air Conditioning Systems Work

Air conditioning systems uses the process of evaporation and a refrigerant called Freon to provide warm or cold air to an enclosed space. Freon is the refrigerant used in ac units to provide cool air. Freon is compressed by the compressor before it runs through the series of coils to dissipate the heat, condensing into liquid as it goes along. It then evaporates after running through the expansion valve to become cold Freon gas. It then runs through another set of coils, where the gas absorbs heat and cools down the air in the building.

Applications for Air Conditioning systems

Air conditioning systems have very significant and necessary applications. For one, they provide an even temperature indoors in a range preferred by humans, despite drastic fluctuations in outside temperature due to changes in the weather and climate. Air conditioning systems also makes ventilation possible for buildings that would otherwise have no source of ventilation, such as buildings with portions located deep underground and very tall buildings, where natural ventilation becomes impractical. Air conditioning is necessary in places where temperatures need to be strictly regulated such as operating room theaters, clean rooms, data processing centers, chemical and biological laboratories and enclosed aircraft.

Advantages of Portable Air Conditioners

While most praise the virtues of central air conditioning systems that provide occupants with constant temperature and just the right kind of humidity indoors, it is easy to overlook the advantage offered by portable air conditioners. For one, people who live in apartments or condos where restrictions are placed against central air conditioning can opt for portable ac units instead. They also take up much less space than central air conditioning units and are much easier to install.
